Firefox 2.0 beta 1 is out, and I’m starting to see some of the cooler features get more publicity. One that I learned about today is microsummaries.
Firefox 2 has the ability to have dynamic data appear in a toolbar. Some examples are stock information, word-of-the-day, etc. The ones that interest me most are tracking modules for UPS and Fedex. There’s also an eBay auction watcher.
There’s one site that lists sites that simply publish data. There are only two right now (one is woot.com though), but I think it will grow. There are several very useful generators on this page though that let you put in things like your UPS tracking number, and it will create a microsummary for you.
I think these things will become more popular as people realize the power.
