I remember the first time I ever heard of POV-Ray. Someone on a BBS asked me if I knew how to do something in it. Of course I didn’t, but back then everything was new, and I checked it out. It was a command line-only 3d rendering program. The samples on the page were multi-colored cubes, some spheres with shadow, etc. I hadn’t really looked at it since then.

Last night I noticed on /. that they were having a 10th anniversary contest, so I went to see what they could do 10 years later. Holy Cow. That’s the sharpest, most realistic rendering I’ve ever seen. Not all of them are perfect, but some would fool me into thinking they were photos, and I was looking hard.

Office is amazing with its attention to massive amounts of detail.
