Ed posted today about Gopher and it reminded me that I’ve been intending to work with Gopher some, just for the heck of it, because I too remember Gopher with fondness.
So today I grabbed the latest UMN Gopher Client and gave that a whirl. It compiled flawlessly on RH9, and away I went. I know I can browse Gopher with any number of web browsers or GUI Gopher clients, but I learned it on a VMS dumb terminal, and that’s part of the charm of Gopher for me. It’s FAST.
So for my next trick I think I’ll run a gopher server, and see how that goes. I see debian has pygopherd.
