Every so often, I need to get on AIM, but don’t have a good client, so I put naim on my box at work, so I can ssh in and get on that way.
naim is a console based ncurses AIM client, and has one of the coolest ncurses interfaces I’ve ever seen. Sliding windows, keyboard shortcuts, the works. Compared to gaim it’s difficult to move from conversation to conversation, so I don’t use it on a day to day basis, but it sure has been nice to have sitting there in the background in case I need it.
One feature it does have that gaim hasn’t worked all the bugs out of yet is file transfer.
