Local Motors is a car company with operates on an Open Source model. Their only car at this point is the Rally Fighter, which you can see above, and in my opinion it’s awesome.
The process of getting one is interesting. You pay $99 to get on a list of people allowed to buy one. Then when it’s your turn to buy, you place a $5000 deposit. Then when it’s time to actually build it, you go there and build it WITH them. Then you pay them $50,000.
It’s way out of my price range of course, but the car is SWEET, and the experience is one of a kind at this point. If you get one, let me know. 🙂
