I’ve been getting more questions lately about what I’m going to be doing for a living starting in April, so I thought I’d write out some common answers here.

What is it exactly you’ll be doing?

I’ll be building web sites for companies, ministries, people, etc.

You can make a living at that? There’s enough work?

I’ve been freelancing for 15 years now, mostly odd jobs. For the last two years things have stepped up a lot though. Work has been steady all that time, and I don’t see any reason why it should slack off. I find it kind of surprising that web development has done so well in the recession.

What about insurance?

This one comes up a lot. If you’re healthy, insurance is easy to get. We’re all healthy. 🙂 I’m guessing we’ll pay about $200/mo for insurance, but that hasn’t been settled yet.

Where will you work?

The same place the 400 lb gorilla sits. 🙂 I’ll mostly work at home, but I’m free to go wherever I’d like. Since we’re also homeschooling, there’s nothing to stop our family from going anywhere we want, any time we want, and I don’t have to “take time off” from work.

How does your wife feel about all of this?

She’s ecstatic. We came to this place in life at exactly the same time, with exactly the same desires and dreams and expectations. It’s been a real blessing from God to be so in sync.

That’s all I can think of at the moment, if you have any more questions, let me know and maybe I’ll do another post.

  1. Thanks, Topher, for the FAQ. We’ve appreciated you muchly… and wish you God’s best in this net big adventure!! =)

  2. Yes He can even go hunting/fishing with his father-in-law. But maybe should leave the computer on shore if it is not ice fishing. We are 100% behind you. 🙂

  3. Just wanted to tell you I read the “My Story” section of your blog to my boys, ages 12 and 8. They found it very interesting and entertaining–we are about 2 weeks from moving to the house we just built on 10 acres (1/2 woods), mostly surrounded by state land. The 8 yr old was surprised to learn you had the same BB gun he has and he also got his bows from his grandpa-my dad. As I said, they found your story interesting, but are glad we have plumbing and electricity right away! 🙂

  4. Hey Topher,

Been trying to reach you and this was the last thing I could think of. Not sure if you remember me, but I have you listed as an employment reference. I have been searching for jobs and realized I haven’t updated my references in awhile if this reaches you please send me an email.
