This isn’t a book review because I’m not going to actually review the book, merely point it out for my chef friends.

The Silver Spoon is a cookbook published in Italy, and only in Italian until recently.  I heard about it on NPR last fall, and have been meaning to blog about it ever since.  That link has the audio as well as quite a few recipies from the book.  The publisher’s notes say this:

The Silver Spoon is the most influential and successful cookbookin Italy. Originally published in 1950, it became an instant classic. Considered to be essential in every household, it is still one of the most popular wedding presents today.

Coming from a nation that loves its food, that’s pretty significant.

  1. The first printing of Silver Spoon sold out almost immediately, and they’re already on a second printing. It sold like gangbusters.
