My kids are at Grandma’s at the moment, and when they’re up there I always call them every evening. This evening, as soon as my youngest got on the phone she said

“Dad, I know what I’m going to do when I’m 16!”

“What’s that?” I asked.

“Go to Disney Land!”

“Why wait until you’re 16?” I asked.

“Because I think that’s how long it’ll take me to save enough money to go. I’m going to save every penny until I have enough!”

I asked her why she thought she needed to save her own money to go, and she replied

“Well, I know we’re short on money while we’re looking for a car, and your doctor bills and all”.

When I told my wife this story she burst out laughing.

“That’s the best guilt trip I’ve heard in a long time!” she said.

Alas, my ailing body shall keep her from Disney until she’s 16.

  1. The Disneyland nest egg. I love it! Disney World is closer, maybe she could save enough money by the time she is 14?

  2. You know, there’s a hospital (“down in Celebration, Florida”) very near Disney World. Florida really has something for all ages. =)

  3. Topher,

We live about 1 hour from Disney World and have a small guest house you and your klan can use…. (kind of an effic. apt.) But would love to offer it to you and yours. Let us know when.
