Years ago, when I worked at Gospelcom, my boss started calling me Topher One. I’m not quite sure why, bcp, wanna chime in here? Unbeknownst to me, another friend in the office thought it sounded like a good beginning for topher1kenobe, and made a movie poster out of it. You can see it on the right there, and click it for a larger version.
All the people named on the poster are people that worked with me, except for Mark, Harrison, and Carrie of course. The blue box on my back is the SGI machine I used at the time. I’m riding a wild Russian boar because my father-in-law had them on his hunting ranch, and Max thought that was cool.
topher1kenobe is a pretty unique name. It may surprise you to know that Topher is NOT a unique name, there are MANY of us, and so it was a bit of a pain to try to use it as a username online. topher1kenobe tends to be nicely available anyplace I try, so I use it a lot. Please don’t use it. 🙂
hm, that just gave me a great idea for a username. “topher1kenobe.” I think I’m going to use it.
The etymology of “Topherone”. A fascinating topic. To be honest, I don’t recall the origins. I’ve been racking my brain, and don’t remember how it started. Perhaps it was a play on words: rather than getting a Two for One deal we got a Topher-one. Heh. It couldn’t be because we were working with multiple Tophers (can you imagine?!), thus needing to differentiate with numbering. We did have multiple Christophers (if you count yourself), but the other one didn’t go by Topher. I think I’ll go with the play on words. 🙂
This is such a delightful origin story for your name. I wouldn’t have guessed that Topher was that common. You have had some great colleagues for them to create a poster like that!
